Fraud Notice Follow Up
In an effort to keep all Members advised of the current status of events that pertain to the Fraud Notice that was announced on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, the following are the current known facts:
- The Fraud activity appears to have been generated by access to the Newsletter-Parke Bench articles that were listed on the Association’s website. The Parke Bench articles define my role as President and the three Parke Members who received the fraudulent emails, have their email addresses listed in the Parke Bench under the Staff Listing.
- One Member, unfortunately, fell victim to this Fraud attempt and participated in the purchase of gift cards. Fortunately, upon prompt detection of the fraud attempt, portions of the exposure have been recovered.
- The standing practice of having the Association’s Newsletter- Parke Bench available to the public, on the Association’s website, as a tool to attract future home buyers to The Parke, is, apparently, the “open door” that allowed the perpetrator access to begin his/her fraudulent activity. Today, upon discovery of this fact, the Newsletter-Parke Bench articles are no longer available for public access. Members must “log in” to access the Newsletter-Parke Bench articles. Additionally, our Communication Advisory Committee will conduct a complete audit of all publicly accessible components of the Association website and forward recommendations to the Board of Directors.
- This fraudulent act does not include any part of our Legum & Norman computer network.
It is unfortunate that we must take these security steps, but it is a true reflection of the world that we live in today. Additionally, we are all a part of a 55 and over senior community…the number one target of these unscrupulous individuals. Our Members entrust, with the Association, their most sacred personal information and I want to express my assurances that every Board, Committee and Staff member is dedicated to be vigilant, above and beyond, in our efforts to protect their privacy and their personal information.
Any questions or concerns any member may have should be directed to the originating entity.
