COVID Update-Governor Executive Order
On Tuesday, March 9, Governor Hogan issued a new Executive Order with updates on facility openings and the continued use of face masks. The order is attached for your reference. On page 6, section III. Occupancy and Operating Requirements, paragraph c., you will find the following statement about Senior Centers:
- Senior Centers. All senior citizen activities centers (as defined in Section 10-
501(i) of the Human Services Article of the Maryland Code) shall remain closed.
And on page 8, section V. General Provisions, paragraph b., you will find:
- A person who knowingly and willfully violates this Order or any Local Order is
guilty of a misdemeanor and on conviction is subject to imprisonment not
exceeding one year or a fine not exceeding $5,000 or both.
You may recall our many discussions over the past year about our clubhouse falling under the classification of Senior Center, so you will understand that we are still closed at the moment per this most recent directive. However, with so many of our residents getting their vaccines, and with so many establishments opening up to do business even if only partially, our Parke Board of Directors is starting to move in the direction of reopening with the hope that we will be able to do so sooner rather than later. We have a 4-phase plan that was completed last summer and will be reviewed by board members within the next week for any updates that seem appropriate. Ranyah will be speaking with our vendors to alert them (cleaning people, pool people, etc.) as to our upcoming plans so they are ready for the return of residents to the clubhouse. We will all be doing our homework on the subject during the rest of this month and hope to have enough information together in order to move to a decision on the subject at our March 31 board meeting. We will not institute the plan however, until the Governor gives further word on Senior Centers. With the recent progress that has been made, we hope that this is just around the corner.
Phase One of our plan includes restricted hours – 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM – and will be by appointment only by calling the clubhouse. Temperature taking, waivers, and masks will all be involved, but it is a start and will progress to Phase Two within a couple of weeks when more will be added until we are fully open in Phase Four. How quickly we move along in each phase will have several determining factors that will be assessed as we go.
So, we hope to see this starting to happen very soon, but we still must follow the Executive Orders from Governor Hogan. We will keep you posted as information becomes available. It will be fully discussed at our March 31 board meeting so tune in if you are interested.
Until then, stay safe, wear your mask, and wash your hands. COVID seems to be getting better, but it is not gone.
