Feeding Wildlife at The Parke
It has been brought to our attention that bread is being fed to the turtles (and birds) at the Hidden Lake Pier Area. A concerned resident stated that it is very harmful and can be fatal for certain wildlife since they cannot digest the bread or is an unhealthy choice.
As a courtesy, here is information from multiple sources on how to safely feed them:
- Pellets are one of the most important things you should feed a pond turtle
- Meat diet suggestions include earthworms, crickets and mealworms
- Vegetable diet suggestions include lettuce, collard greens, kale, shredded carrots, and squash
- Aquatic plants can be put into the pond to feed on as well
Pellets are available for around $10 on Amazon. Also, place the food in the pond and do not try to hand feed them directly.
