August Inspiration & Art in The Parke!

Summer is such a busy time around here and the July Reveal was lightly attended but we all seemed to have a great time. I’m so pleased that the group voted to continue to create artwork and gather to reveal throughout the summer.  

I recently downloaded a bunch of photos from my camera and was frustrated to find this short, dumpy, attention-seeking person, AKA my shadow, in a lot of the shots.  

But most of the time I appreciate shadows.  Sometimes, the shadow is the star of my composition and other times, the shadow plays a very important supporting role in my artwork.  Shadows are what give a building, a flower or even a face the illusion of depth.  Shadows can set the stage or the mood of a piece of art.  Without shadows, our art would be flat and perhaps boring.  I’ve attached a couple of photos where I felt the shadows were important to my composition or message and I hope they provide inspiration for you to pay attention to shadows and create something wonderful for the August Reveal.

The August Reveal will be held on Wednesday, August 31, at 7pm in the Grand Hall.  Arna Miller and Judy Roberts will be our hostess.  The rules are simple.  Follow the inspiration, wherever it takes you, and create something.  If your passion is writing, singing, painting, sewing, woodworking, or photography just go create in any medium, any size and just keep it a secret until the next Great Reveal.  Oh, the only other rule is have fun!

My other news is about Art in The Parke, which is scheduled for Sunday September 18.  For those that are new, Art in The Parke is a community art fair and it is a great opportunity for you to show all the great artwork you’ve created and if you are interested, you can even sell it.  However, you must sign up to participate.  Applications and drop boxes are in the Clubhouse Lobby and the Mail Pavilion.  Once you sign up, you will be invited to exhibit a sample of your work in the Clubhouse Display Case.  Also, please be aware, we have a limited number of tables and chairs to provide for artisans and they will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis so PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATIONS ASAP!
